GISBORNE, Dec. 4
A serious altercation took place in a boarding-house here on Saturday evening between two men, labourers, named Tbos. Fitzgerald and Win. Brown. The two were disputing ever money matters and were advised to settle their dispute on the lawn In front of the house. Fitzgerald declined to fight and went upstairs, followed by Brown. Some time later a disturbance was heard and the inmates rushed to Fitzgerald’s room. It is alleged that Brown forced Fitzgerald on to the bod and badly treated him. Fitzgerald was found in a semi conscious condition and the doctor was called in and oidoled. his removal to the hospital. He is suffering from an injury to the spue and yesterday remained in a semi-con-scious condition, but showed some slight improvement this evening. Brown was arrested and charged with assault, at the police station this morning and was remanded until next week.
