Lady and Miss Eileen Ward went, by the afternoon train to Winton, where they were met by the ladies of the district and entertained at a ban-; quet. About one hundred ladies were present. The * hall was tastefully decorated. Mrs Mcßrown presided, and after A dinner, Mrs McWilliam read an address of welcome, stating that it was , the wish of a large section of the lady voters of Awarua electorate in the' Winton end to convey their sincere desire that Lady Ward would long be spared to assist her esteemed husband in the great work he was carrying on in the Dominion. The address went 0 n to congratulate Lady Ward on the way she had assisted her husband in his career, and concluded with the hope that she would be long spared to continue to do so. Lady Ward, who was greeted with loud applause, expressed her sincere thanks, and avowed special attachment to Awarua, where she felt at home. .: Mrs Rohe expressed the sincere hope that Sir J. G. ‘Ward would be returned at the ton of the poll with a very large majority. (Applause). " Bouquets were presented to Lady and Miss Ward. After a short musical programme, the social concluded with much enthusiasm, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” “For He’s a jolly Good Fellow,” and cheers for Lady and Sir Josenh Ward.
