PERSONAL NOTES.

) Mr Percy Harold, representing Archibald Clark and Co., of Auckland, is at present in town. i Mr John Ledge, a warder at the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, recently received his imedal for long service, having completed fourteen years in the Prisons Department. Mr Ledge has been eleven years at the Terrace, and was for two years and three months at the Lyttelton Gaol, and prior to that nine months a warder at the Hokitika Gaol. , On Friday night the members of the Lyttelton Casual Railway Wharf La'uok j'ers* Union, in their Social Hall, entertained Mr .W. Hannay, the retiring slationmaster, at a' farewell social. There ■was a crowded attendance of members and friends, and the president of the Union (Mr W. Daniels) occupied the chair. After the health of Mr Hannay had been enthusiastically honoured, the Chairman presented him with a travelling rug for Mrs Hannay, and a case of pipes for himself, subscribed for by members of the Union. Mr Daniels referred to the zealous and capable manner in which Mr Hannay had carried out his arduous and responsible duties during the fifteen years he had been in Lyttelton. On behalf of the Union he wished Mr and Mrs Hannay every happiness. (Loud applause). In replying, Mr Hannay thanked the members of the Union for ■•heir good wishes and their gifts, and formally declared the recently enlarged and renovated social hall open. A number of toasts and a musical programme combined to make a very pleasant evening. Mr Hannay is retiring, after thirtyfour years’ active service in the Railway Department. He first joined at Lyttel- . ton and subsequently was for over nine years stationmastef at Bluff, and six and a-half years at Greymouth, and has just completed nearly fifteen years as stationmaster at Lyttelton.
