On the second ballot, Mr Poland was elected, securing 2884 votes to Mr Haselden’s 2,192. (2) A candidate has to secure 25 per cent, of the votes cast to save his deposit, so that Messrs Way, Foster and Armstrong forfeited theirs. The total number of votes cast was 4.579. M.J.
