Bates) issued the following weather summary and foreeast:—"A westerly storm area [has developed and rain has fallen in many parts of the country. High northerly winds have prevailed and the barometer has fallen everywhere. Present indications are for rain and cloudy weather generally, with a further fall in the barometer in most parts of the country, but a temporary rise is anti- '. oipated shortly in *ho south. High northerly and westerly winds will probably predominate, hut a change to the sotithwards lor a short time may ho .ooked for soon. STORM APPROACHING. The Dominion Meteorologist notifies that a southerly strm is threatening, with rain and snow", and a cold snap shortly. The Eev. D. C. Bates (Government Meteorologist) wired at noon to-day as follows : "Westerly strong winds to gale, veering to southerly strong to gale after 20 hours; expect unsettled and cloudy weather and rain probable and snow in high country Mowing river in flood; glass fall, but rise after twenty hours, and ! weather probably much colder; tides i high, sea very heavy."
