The Government Meteorological Of-, flee last night issued the following weather summary and forecast:—The barometer has been very unsteady, rising and falling, especially in the south. The winds were variable, chiefly veering to the north-west. Rain fell in most parts on Wednesday night, but cleared in the south to-day. Cloudy and showery weather, however, has continued in the northernmost districts. The present indications are for a change for moderate to strong southerly winds, cool and showery conditions preceding a short spell of fair weather. The barometer will probably rise everywhere soon. The Rev. D. C. Bates (Government Meteorologist) wired at noon to-day as follows: “Expect moderate to strong southerly winds; winds freshening; weather probably cool and changeable; probab 1 heavy .showers; glass rise; tides moderate and sea considerable.” ARRIVED. The Jane Douglas is discharging cargo at Motueka and will leave Nelson on Saturay for Hokitika direct. The Ngahere is due from Wellington to-morrow. She sails on her return tomorrow night. The Ngatoro is due from Timarn on Monday. She sails for Auckland the same night. The Ennerdale was nnahle to getaway yesterday afternoon owuv to the shoaling of the bar. She is expected to sail this afternoon for Kaipara. where she completes loading for Melbourne. The Holmdale is due to-night from Lvttelton.

The Kairaki sailed at 4 p.m. for Lyttelton and Kaiapoi with a cargo of tim her.

There is a large number of passengers travelling between Wellington and Sydney at present, and the Union ' Steam Shin Company received advice yesterday that all the saloon accommodation was engaged in the Mararoa, sailing from Wellington on the- 31st. March. The rush is caused by Coronation passengers, and it behoves intending passengers to secure their berths early.

The Koonva arrived Inst night and sailed this morning for Bluff and Dimedin, coal laden. The Manourika arrived this morning and sailed for Wellington at three o’colck this afternoon. The Kotuku is due to-night and loads coal for Wellington. The Poherua is expected to sail this afternoon for Wellington. Mr W.‘ G. Clarke has joined tile Gertie as second engineer in place of Mr E. Strothers. s Mr Crowe has succeeded Mr Eohertson as second officer of the Somali. Mr Eobertson has joined the Haupiri in a rimilar capacity. Mr L .E. Woden has been apnointed second officer of the Makura in place of xi;■ C. B .Greer, who wont ashore in Dunedin. Mr J. Sutherland, late second officer of the Mokoia. has joined the Poherua as chief officer in place of Mr Ockendcn, who is now on the Kotuku. The Maoriland Company advise that the Press Association message reporting the departure of their new steamer Lauderdale from Home is intended to mean that the vessel has left Glasgow for Liver nook where she will load for New Plymouth . Now nndergoinp; extensive alterations to make her into a collier, the one-time passenger steamer Flora had her two masts and funnel put hack at Port Chalmers last week. Originally these structures were placed at an angle, but now thev are practically at right angles to the deck. The Alexander arrived last, night, and sailed morning for Westport and Wellington* The Kennedy is due from Wellington. Nelson and Westport this evening, and sails to-night for Westnort and Foxton.
