In order to solve the question of the admissability of certain statements which Senkovich made to the police at Melbourne the prisoner went into the box. Senkovitch, speaking through an interpreter said that he had made the statements because he thought that, as in Russia, he must answer a policeman or he would be imprisoned.' In reply to another question, the prisoner declared that he did not believe in the existence of God.
