A LARGE FORTUNE.
A DENNISTON MAN’S LUCK, [BV TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL TO THE STAR.] WELLINGTON, This pay.
Mr John Harrington, of Denniston, is visiting Wellington in connection with the legacy left to the, Harrington family by his lake uncle Patrick McGuire, of New York. The history of this fortune reads like a romance. Mr McGuire, when a youth went to America from Galway, Ireland, to New York, and through the influence of wealthy relations obtained employrnnt in one of the important railways, some fifty years ago, and being a shrewd young man, saw the possibilities of a speculation in railway stocks. Success crowned his efforts, so much so that at the time of his decease a year ago, we are informed he left seven million dol, lars, all invested in valuable railway stocks. *Tlie whole of this estate goes to the Harrington family which consists of Mr John Harrington, of Denniston, Mr Barclay Harrington, of Hawera, and Mrs A. M. Cow, late of Barrett’s Hotel and now of Sydney, who will receive nearly half a million sterling each. The legatee’s solicitors are Messrs Hubble and Co.. Broadway, New York, who discovered the whereabouts of the Harrington family in this country through the agency of the Union Bank of Australia.
Mr Harrington will be staying in in Wellington for a few days. Mr Harrington will shortly make a visit to New York after an absence from that city of 27 years. Mr Harrington has appointed Messrs Ihvan Bros., of Wellington, to transact local business for him.
