PERSONAL NOTES.
Mrs Page, of Christchurch, is on a visit to “Greymouth, and is the guest of her daughter, Mrs E. Middleton, of Chapel Street. We regret to say that the condition of Mr E. I. Lord is exceedingly critical and that no hopes are now held out for his recovery. On Saturday evening the residents of Ruatapn presented Mr Patrick Allardyce, guard on the Ross-Hokitika line, with a purse of sovereigns. MrAlladyce who has been in bad health for some time is being transferred to the Auckland district, where we hope he may benefit by the change of climate, and soon be restored to good health. Territorials generally on the West Coast will learn with regret of the transfer of Staff Sergeat-Major Wiliams to the Ashburton district, whither ho has been drafted under the new scheme. This popular instructor, by his keen interest, energetic work, and informative lectures, has materially assisted not only the Territorials, but the cadets and boy scouts in this district during the period of his connection with it, and he will bo much missed on the West Coast. -
A very pleasing ceremony took place on Saturday last at the Lands and Survey office, Hokitika, Miss White being made a presentation by the, staff prior to her departujre from Hokitika. Mr. G. H. M. McClure, Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands, on behalf of the staff, presented Miss White with a handsome Ipdy’s dressing ease. In doing so, he' referred to Miss White's many good qualities, both as an officer of the Department and in other respects, and wished her every success in the future, expressing the hope that Miss White, would continue to advance in the service. Mr. McClure concluded by expressing regret at Miss White’s severance from the local staff. Miss White briefly responded, thanking the staff for their handsome gilt, which in her new locale would serve to remind her of many pleasant associations-with the staff of the Hokitika office.
