GREY BOROUCH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Finance Committee of the Greymouth Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present Crs. D. Tennent (in the chair), G. Sweetman, E. M. Sheedy, J. Kerr, G. E. Perkins, J. Petrie and the Mayor (A. C. Russell, Esq.) Accounts totalling £561 were examined and recommended to the Council for payment. In regard to the supply of oils, it was agreed on Cr. Petrie's suggestion that in future these should be obtained locally. Crs. Sweetman and Tennent directed attention to the block near the Temperance Hotel in Tainui Street, and the Engineer stated that he had already instructed the Overseer to have the matter rectified.
The Mayor reported that Mr. M. Phillips had declined to act as a member of the committee recently appointed to inquire into Borough matters. He suggested the appointment of Mr. Gorton in his place. After some discussion, Cr. Kerr moved that the matter remain over till next meeting. Cr. Tennent seconded the motion, which was carried. The Council then adjourned.
