A large and representative meeting of delegates of the school committees of tho was - held here • to-day and formed a school committee association branch for tho district. It was decided to take steps to enter a united protest against tho action of the Education Department in reducing the grant to the education board, and in withdrawing the capitation grant to the school committees. HOCKEY. PALMERSTON N., April 8,-i-At the Manawatu Hockey Association's annual meeting to-night an offer was received for a match wih an English team and asked for a guarantee of £75 but it was decided that there was no cliancje of recouping that from the gates and so the offer was declined
