POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY
There was a holiday audience last night nt the Opera House on the occasion of the second performance oi the screamingly funny musical comedy "Miss Hook of Holland." which created roars of laughter. To-night the company will stage that charming operetta "An Adnmless Eden" by Waller Slaughter (author ol "Bluebell in Fairyland"). Tt is n short satiro on women's political rights. The women, headed by the Duchess, have revolted, and turning the whole of the men out of the country, have their own Parliament. Ihe scene opens in a saloon in the Duchess s mansion, where the ladies are enjoying the fruits of their labors, but, nevertheless, there is an evident air of discontent, and some want tho men bark. Sophia Svntax, the chairwoman of the School Board, is in love with a Mr. Peter 8011... and he, disguised as a pilgrim, enters the country to meet his lady love. The Duchess, on discovering' that the supposed pilgrim is a man. consents to keep silent on the condition that two more pilgrims are induced to take a pilgrimage to the island. F'arliamenls meets to take a vote about the men. but breaks up ill disorder, and the arrival of an army of mashers forces the ladies to surrender and Adam becomes Lord of Eden once no.re. The piece is very highly spoken of by the press of the large centres and it is sure to attract a large audience at the Opera House to-night. To-night's programme will he supplemented by a few introduced specialties. Mr. Charles Albert and Miss Minnie Topping will lie associated in an entirely new sketch with eccentric dances. Mr. "Jock AVillis will he heard in some of his famous Scotch eccentricities and by special request will sing "Foo the Noo" and "Has anybody seen Kelly." Miss Cissy O'Keefe ami Clarice Buckmann are down for popular ballads. The Aldous sisters and Trixie Ireland are down for their favorite trio and dances. Other members of the company will also contribute items in this variety entertainment which will form the first part. The company announce that owing to a large deputation of their Hokitika patrons, they have decided to curtail the Greymonth season and play a! Hokitika. on Saturday night next. Tonight, therefore, will bo the last opportunity of witnessing this talented company.
