About 1200 were present, The drying wicket was difficult, (arkeck fielded as a substitute for Whitty. Braund gave a Found and skilful dis plav Ho was nearly run out whcii_6B. The fourth wicket* fell for 73 and the seventh for 88. The whole innings lasted 145 minutes.

After lunch the Australian wickets fell rapidly. Bardsley fell at the third hall. Noble was taken low down m the slips in the second over. Braund caught Trnmper brilliantly one-handed m the third over. Three wickets were down for .seven. McAlister hatted fifty minutes for his total. Gregory took the same time and played resolutely, being strong on the leg side, but lost his wicket in playing forward to Greswcll. He hit three fourers and three threes. Armstrong was caught off a powerful return. Armstrong suffered from a weak leg and Whitty was ill with influenza. Gregory and Noble are both suffering from the climate.
