When the nominator described Bry- i an as the choice of the militant democracy,' the Convention cheered with the wildest enthusiasm and innumerable flags were waved. A white dove was released above the platform. A great portrait of Bryan was lowered . from the roof, when there was a fresh burst,.of cheering. , Banners; were grouped all round. .Bryan's party platform was unanimously adopted. It includes a tariff plank,'demanding an immediate revision and a reduction of import duties and the gradual restoration of the tariff to a revenue basis.. It declares that articles competing with'trust-controlled products should forthwith be placed on the free list and the duties on the necessities of lite materially reduced, especially on articles, competing with American manufactures sold cheaper abroad than- at h °Kern, of Indianopolis, a lawyer, was nominated with acclamation for the vice-presidency. • k •» Mr J W. Bryan's platform opposes Asiatic Immigration and favors; the popular election of the United States Senate. ~
