MR. SEDDON IN AUSTRALIA.
[IIY ILKOTEIO TELEOKAPH.—(JOPYHIOHT.) r?.EB PEEBB ASSOCIATION.) MR SEDDON IN AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE, May 23.—Mr Seddon arrived here to-day. He was met by the Lord Mayor, Town Clerk, and . some members of the State Ministry, and heartily welcomed. Mr Deakin intended being present, but arrived Bite. Ho afterwards saw Mr Seddon at his hotel. A public reception by the Mayor, in the Town Hall, took place at noon, at which there was a most representative gathering, including Mr Deakin, Sir John Forrest and Mr Bent.
MELBOURNE, This Day.—Dealdn states that there is not a great deal of business matters to be discussed with Seddon till the latter’s return from Adelaide. Seddon, speaking at last night’s banquet, said a question demanding attention was the future control of the New Hebrides and other islands in tho Pacific. Wo should not hesitate to lot our opinions bo known to tho Imperial statesmen. These islands must be British. Tho Panama Canal would completely change tho commerce of the Pacific. He wank'd Australians and Now Zealanders lo eombino in saying there shall be only one flag dominating in the Pacific—and that flag the Union Jack.
