compared with our ordinary method is only about one-fourth of the cost, even with the assistance of explosives without the battery, as we have proved by experience with bur own gang on the same section that this demonstration took place. . The reason of this is that with the battery the stump or tree can be attacked from three or four points simultaneously, whereas with the old method only one point can be dealt with at a time. I would like to draw the attention of the powers that bo to the fact that the average workman of this enlightened age can appreciate such a labor-saving machine. No man cares to delve away for a couple of days at a piece of work when, with the assistance of a little science, it can bo dono in a couple of hours and for one-fourth of tho outlay. The saving of cost to tlie country must bo a benefit to everybody. I would as a workman certainly recommend tho Public Works' Department contractor or farmer to procure one of these batteries, which are sold at from £8 10s upwards with all accessories The cost would bo saved in a very short time Trusting you will insert this for tho benefit of those concerned, I am, etc — RAILWAY EMPLOYEE.
