GENERAL MINING NOTES.

The past week’s returns from the dredges show a little improvement, but the interest of years ago has almost entirely disappeared, and investors now only look to dividends to return them their money. The Paclolus dredges are on a good run of gold and continue to get solid returns, 102 ounces being washed up o» Saturday. The No Town Creek also shows an improvement, an improvement which, it is believed, will last for some time to come. At Greenstone the Three Milo got a very fair return, but the experience of this ground shows it to be exceedingly patchy and unreliable. The Creek, now owned privately ,is said to be doing fairly well. Messrs Cunningham, McDonald, r#d Company are also having a fairly good time at the Cornwall.

The lilackwater is again getting o good wash. This week should see an ii crease on last. The gravel at the fac looks well.

The Prince of Wales dredge has been closed down for a fortnight In enable repairs to be effected to the condenser. The proprietors are also putting in a new bottom. tumbler. It is expected that (he dredge will resume wor kon the 28th. Messrs Avery and Co., tributers of the Pnl Queen mine, Mokihinui, have cleaned up, with a return of 660 zof gold from d" tons of stone.

The lilackwater reefs continue to attract a good deal of attention, and fancy prices are asked for outside interests. There is no doubt but that Mr Kingswell lias a real good thing on in his lease, where stone has been proved for a considerable distance. In other leases the amount of work done is not very large. I hi Saturday steam was got up on ‘lie \el,-,on Creek' Company’s No 2 dredge, and the machinery worked very satisfactorily. It will bo about three weeks be fore she will be properly jyorking, as there is yet a good deal to be done to (be building, etc. The erection was carried out by Cox ami Strakcr, engineers, of tins town.
