ACCIDENT IN A MINE. | THAMES, Sept. 26,'—An accident occurred at the Victoria mine to-dny to two miners named Addicoal. and Rnbc, working on the face of a drive drilled a hole and put in a shot. It is presumed that Addicoat was shoving o charge of gelignite borne when it exploded, blowing oil' a portion of his baud and injuring Dim about the head and eyes. The Hand will be saved and the sight, is not injured. Addicoat's escape from death is nothing short of marvellous. Rabe was some distance back when tjlie acciident occurred and escaped unhurt.

EXPORT OF TIMBER. THAMES, Sept. 2C—Preparation is being made for the export from the Thames of large quantities of timber from-the Tauno bush district. The work is to be carried out on an extensive scale.

ILLEGAL OYSTER FISHING. THAMES, Sept. 26.—Under the Treaty of Wailangi the Maoris were allowed to take shell fish.ineludiiig ovsteis, during the close season and from prohibited areas, but the treaty litis been found that some Europeans have arranged with the Maoris for a large supply of oysters for sale. The activity of the Fisheries Department officers prevented the continunanec. The pakeha offenders have been punished.

ARBITRATION COURT. TIMARU, Sept. 26.—The Arbitration Court concluded its sittings here this morning, .and left tin's afternoon for the north. The penalties imposed by the Court here aggregated £lls, exclusive of expenses, and in two cases the decision was reserved. These were relating to the payment of certain threshing hands.
