WELLINGTON, July 11.—A large deputation, representing tlio Nelson province, waited on the Premier this morning to point out tho urgent necessity of extending the railway line as fat as Hope, where it would tap the coach road to the Buller. Mr Soddon said the East Coast and Nelson connection had been approved by Parliament, and had not the contractors failed, Nelson would, by this time, have had connection with Christchurch. The grounds for making the connection had been strengthened by time, and by reason of the growing demands for land, timber and coal. Mr Seddon expressed tho opinion that ho would eventually have to look to (he Nelson district for land for settlement. NELSON, July 11.—At the Anglican Diocesan Synod, a resolution was carried recognising the great amount of evil resulting from the licensed sale of alcoholic beverages, and expresses hearty sympathy with the efforts now being made to remedy the evil.
