GREYMOUTH MUNICIPAL ELECTION.
A great deal of interest was taken in (he municipal elections yesterday, all (he available vehicles in town being pressed into service conveying electors (o (he polling booths. The result of the poll has been to return the old council with but one alteration, Mr. Thomas being the successful candidate. Mr. M'Lean occupied the pride of place with a splendid vote of (55(5, beating the second candidate on the poll by 150 A-otes, while some of the older councillors, notably Mr. Petrie, just managed to hold their scats. Mr. M.'Lean heartily thanked the electors J'or the proud position in which he had been placed. He look it as a compliment to himself as a native of Greymouth and a tribute of respect to his parents. It was proof that his actions had met with approval in the past, and he should endeavor to do his utmost in the future to merit the confidence of the electors. Mr. Shecdy was pleased at the honorable position he occupied on the poll. As an old councillor ho had done his best for the town, and would continue to do so in the future. Messrs. Joyce, Steer, Petrie and Parti tt also addressed the audience, which atone o’clock numbered about 200. The following Mayoral c.ntcsts aic to hand:—

In each case a member of the last council was defeated. LOWER HUTT. Stevens 243 Bunny (present Mayor)... 229 WELLINGTON. There was great interest- in the Mayoral and City Council elections and elections and the polling was heavy. Eight of the old Councillors were re* turned. LINWOOD. Pearce 621 Baard 302 FEILDIKG. Sutherland 663 Mrs, Yates ... 173 Five new men were elected to the City Council. Wdllington, This Day. Polling for the councillors was the heaviest known for many years. It was half past one before returns were made up. John Hunter, contractor, late of Wellington, headed the poll. Four old councillors who sought re-election were returned.
