Census Returns. Received this day, at 12 50 p m. Hobart, April 20. The interim statement of tho census gives tho population of the colony at 171,000. The population of Hobart is 21,570, and Launceston 18,0-13. Sydney, April 22. Tho census shows 3348 more women than men in Sydney and Suburbs. Last census there were 7595 more men than women. The troops at tho war arc largely accountable for tho absence of men. Hew Zealand Federal Commission. Received this day, at 9 45 a m. Brisbane, April 22. The New Zealand Federal Commission arrived on Saturday night. The chairman states that the Commission wishes to make special inquiries into the sugar colored labor question, and hope to visit some sugar plantations, but feared they would hardly have time as they leave Brisbane on Thursday.
