EX-JUDGE MARTIN’S SUCCESSOR.
The Dunedin Star urges the Cabinet to | at once proceed to fill Mr Martin’s place, « as the business of the Arbitration Court || has too long suffered from changes in the presidentship, and the work has drifted. A Discussing claims of likely aspirants, il P says that the choice of Ministers will be y between Messrs Theo Cooper, and Fred Chapman. Were it a question of merely adding to the Supreme Court || Bench, the probabilities are that Mr Cooper would receive the appointment, since ijj it is understood in legal circles that ho has % an undoubted claim which ministers arc willing to recognise, but ho is not disposed to undertake the duties pertaining | to the presidentship of the Arbitration | Court, which involves a large amount ol & travelling in visiting various centres. Much for the same reason it is understood p that Mr Stringer is indisposed to give g (up the emoluments of his present position | |AII things considered, the Star thinks | |that Mr Chapman has the best chance, I Sand has no hesitation in saying that ho | (would make an excellent president of the | iArbitration Court, having proved his % (special capacity in the position of chair- \i iman of the Conciliation Board, %vherc his | and painstaking discharge! lof his duties has given the greatest satis-i Ifaction to the parties engaged in for settlement. |
