NEW ZEALAND AND THE COMMONWEALTH

Wex.lington, Jan 4. The Acting-Premier received the following cablegram from Mr Lewis, Premier of Tasmania: —The only regret Uis possible for one to feel when Australia is at last united after many years of patient thought and labor is that Now Zealand does not stand side by side with her sister states. It is sincerely to be hoped that the time is not far distant when she will take part in the union and then Australasia, with united voice, will add to the of the British Empire upon the civilization and progress of the world and become a factor in the establishment of universal peace.
