A braiich ol the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency was established in Nelson yesterday.

Mr Madge, formerly of Coiliugwood, took, over the Masonic Hotel at Nelson yesterday. The Hducatiou Board has recommended Miss Malloy as assistant teacher at Colliugwoud, she being the only applicant. The Charitable Aid Board sat till midnight last night. Mr Geo. Austin, formerly of Coliingvvood, was appointed night porter at the Hospital. Air Allan’s motion that lees tor operations should be paid bv patients where able, insteau ot by the Board, was carried. May’s butter factory at Richmond was burned to the ground last night.
