Tne annual statutory meeting (if the County Couricil was- held at Takaka yesterday;'at noon, Crs Sinclair,' Bartlett, Malison, Allan, Washbourne, arid Riley being present:—Cr Sinclair, was re-elected-i County Chairman for the ensuing year,"On the motion of Cr Allan,!ponded by Cr AYashbourne;— Mi; Hi BaigenA was re-appointed as the Council’s representative, on the Nelson H. and C.A.. Quite a large number of local residents left by steamer on Monday morning to attend tbs Supreme Court Sittings which opened at Nelson yesterday. A somewhat disastrous holt occurred at the Port yesterday morning. A horse attached to a spring trap, both the property of Mr E. lorns, brpke awav from the verandah to which it was tied and careered down the street at a great pace, eventually coming to grief at the Collingwood Hotel corner, where both horse and trap were overturned. The horse was uninjured, but the trap received considerable damage, and had to be taken away for drastic repairs. The Slate River. Sluicing Company are about to put in hand the work of raising their big darn at Toi Toi Flat. Mr Poison, who was in charge of the work before, has arrived to make preparations for commencing operations. . ,

For a “one-man show”, the entertainment given by Mr Val. Vousden, ventriloquist aud impersonator, at the Public Hall on Saturday evening last, was a pleasant surprise to the very considerable audience who assembled.
