OBITUARY.

it is our painful duty to record the dqath of Mrs Davidson, wife of E. Davidson, Esq., Coroner and J.P.. of Onetaua, which occurred at her resi deuce on Thursday evening last. The deceased lady had been ailing for a Jong time past front a lingering disorder, during which she has received ,the most devoted attention from her husband and family. The best of medical aid was procured, but it was all unavailing, and the end which was so inevitable came at six o’clock on Thursday evening last.

Mrs Davidson has, with her husband,, been identified with the Pa k a watt dis- • rict for a great many years, first at Taupata station, where she reared quite a large family of sterling sons and useful daughters, and afterwards at Onetaua, where she has resided for fifteen years or so, leading an exemplary life of quiet retirement, unostentatiously assisting her daughters in their long sustained and successful efforts to promote the welfare of the local Sunday School and Library, with which the names of these ladies have been so closely identified for many

years. The deceased lady was possessed of a noble and refined character and most sterling qualities, and was formerly of ; ctive habits—qualities which count for a great deal at all times, but more especially useful in the early days of -settlement when success and safety so much depended upon one’s own resourcefulness and adaptibility.

Mrs Davidson was a sister of Messrs James and Alexander Mackay, both formerly weli-known in this district, and has numerous other relatives in and around Nelson, to which city her remains were taken by steamer on Tuesday morning for interment. The .deceased was (19 years of age, TV of •■y/oich were >pei»t iu this eo!u«.y, m.
