THE GOLDEN BAY ARGUS. (FLAT JUSTITIA, RUAT CŒLUM.) FRIDAY, JUNE 10th, 1892. COLLINGWOOD ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting was held on Monday evening, all members present. Mr W. C. Riley was unanimously elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Mr Skilton brought up the question of bridges .and culverts on the main road, from the Dining Table Cutting to the 17 Mile. He spoke at some length on the advisability of removing, repairing, and replacing a great number of them. He thought also that a fordway should be made at Dining Table Cutting. Messrs Woodfield, Exton, and J. Riley considered a fordway could not be made. —Mr Exton would decidedly object to the pipes being taken out again. After a long argument between Messrs Exton and Skilton, Mr Skilton proposed, that the resolution of last meeting re putting in more pipes at Miles’ contract be rescinded. Mr J. W; Riley seconded. Carried. Mr Skilton proposed, that the pipes be taken put and a jjordway made. Not seconded. Mr Woodfield proposed, that the pipes be taken out and a bridge made. He said if it was on a level road ho would advocate for a ford, but at t}ie foot of the hill it could not be thought of. —Mr Exton seconded. A ford was out of the question.: —Motion carried. Mr Skilton, continuing the subject of bridges, etc., suggested, That-culvert on top of cutting at the Palpbo takon out and road.filled in.—

Agreed to. —That Ift pipes be put in at the bridge through which Mr Hullett’s horse fell. —Agreed to.—That bridge near J. Skilton’s be taken out and road'filled in.—Agreed to.—That a bridge opposite Schwartfager’s gate be repaired.—Agreed to.—That a man be sent up to do the above work at once.—Agreed to. It was further resolved, —That tenders be called for taking out culvert at Mac • kay’s Pass near Fisher’s, and pipes put in.—For removing culvert at Heyward’s Hill, and making fordway.—For lowering cutting on James’ road, Riverdale.—For raising Clay Creek fordway 18 inches. Rosolved, that Mr Skilton be authorised to get done all necessary work on road from Woods’ to 15-mile creek, at a cost not exceeding ,£lO. Mr Skilton offered to get done 3 weeks woi'k on the road from 15-mile upward, for two weeks’ pay. —Offer accepted. Resolved, that pipes on Kaituna Plain road be taken out and fordway made — pipes to be taken to 15-mile creek ; also, that approaches to a bridge on the same road be gravelled. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter read from J. W. Harvey, junior, wanting to know who was valuator for the district, and why certain valuations had been made on his Ferntown properties. —Resolved that the Board had nothing to do with the matter. Letter from W. Grant, accepting the Board’s terms for prosecuting the work at King’s cutting, and asking the Board to lay off the work at once.—Mr Skilton suggested that the Board visit the place and see wliat was to be done.—Resolved accordingly, Mr Grant to be informed that the Board have not funds to do the work at present. Letter from J. Winstone, stating that owing to the Board’s neglect to repair Cederman’s by-road be had been put to an extra expense of £3 in fencing his land; also enclosing an account for 4s, for clearing ‘ Harvey’s Road.’ to enable him to pack liis fencing wire on to his property.—Field over for enquiry. Letter from C. J. Jeffries, stating that he had felled bush on a road through his property, and asking payment therefor ; also requesting that a road between Woods’ and. McGuire’s land be opened up for his convenience.—Further information to be asked for. GENERAL. A number of accounts presented were held over Rosolved that Messrs Sliaw and J. W. Riley be asked to report on the best plan

to adopt ill reference to the bridge in the Pakawau Bush. Resolved that a ford way on the Swamp be. repaired. Mr Exton said the Board should provide a polling booth at Ferntown in • future in times of election for members of the Board. He instanced the great inconvenience which arose from the want of it at the late election. Ho moved to that effect.—Mr Walker seconded. —Mr Skilton asked what the expense would he. —The Clerk said about £2 5s. —Mr Skil - ton moved aa an amendment, that the booth be provided in times of general elections only, and not at bye-elections. —Mr Woodfield seconded. —Amendment carried, Messrs Walker and Exton voting against. ‘ Resolved, on the suggestion of Mr Woodfield, that the footbridge over the Pah Creek bo renewed. Resolved, on the suggestion of Mr J. Riley, that Mr Scadden be asked to do a few days work on the road near the Parapara. In reply to Mr J. Riley, the Clerk said the plans for the footbridge over the Purawhako stream had been sent down. Mr Skilton said Slate River bridge was out of repair; and that the Aorere bridge wanted a new plank in.—lt was decided to do the latter work at once. The Board then rose.
