A CHILD’S DEATH CAUSED BY ASPHYXIATION (Per Press Association) Upotiki, March 1 Death of u, child as a result of eating peanuts was investigated by the district coroner, Mr F. J. Short, at an inquest at Nukuhou, 18 miles west qf Opotiki - Tihe child was George Robinson, aged two years, son of Air and Airs G. F. Robinson. 'The evidence showed that ;:s the mother was about to put the child to bed on Alonday night lie cried. To pacify him she gave him some peanuts and then left the room, returning soon afterwards to hath him. He thereupon cried, commencing to- choke. The husband tried to remove the obstruction, hut the child collapsed. The parents telephoned to Dr. Candy, who gave instructions as to treatment, in an endeavour to revive the child. It. however, ceased to breathe. The doctor said death was caused by asphyxiation through a peanut lodging in the throat. Tlie coroner returned a verldiot of death in accordance with the medical evidence.
