EMPIRE MIGRATION
Departmental Committee HOUSE OF COMMONS THOSE' EMPTY SPACES IN BRITAIN OVERSEAS A MOTION CARRIED By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright (Aust. and N.Z. Cable) (Received March 2. 0 a.in.) Dondun, March 1 In the House of Commons Mr T. .Levy (Con.) moved a resolution welcoming the departmental committee on migration and urging the early issue of a report. Commissions should be appointed to inquire on the spot as to the possibilities of the Dominions and the Colonies, the commissions consisting not of politicians, but of farmers, surveyors and financiers, t ostudy the task of developing the rich, empty lands of the Empire, an imperative safeguard of the Empire’s future. Mr A. M. I .yons (C.), seconding the motion, said the proportion of British stock in Canada was shrinking, while many jealous eyes were on Northern Australia. One of the causes of the lag of migration was the lack of social services in the Dominions. Mr W. Limn (Lab.) said a danger of so many debates on the subject was the creation of a false impression in tlic Dominions that House of Commons was in a panic to shovel people on to the Dominions. The motion was carried without a division.
