TRENTHAM NOTES The tracks are in good orcier. the plough being used for the few gallops done yesterday morning (says the Post - ). Normandy, who has been allowed every chance to come back to his early promise, was sent over six furlongs, but ho did not sharpen up till past the half mile. He ran the sixin 1.20 J-, the last half mile in sojsec. Red Sun, looking well, ran six furlongs nicely in 1.17, the last half mile in srsec. He is to be tried' over shorter distances at next month’s meeting, entry for him having been made in the Thompson and Hutt Handicaps, both mile events. Morbury. accompanied by Barnum for three furlongs and brought home by Cape Lilock over the first three furlongs, ran six furlongs in 1.17.

Morburv and Rulgte will be Mr Kemball’s only two year old runners at the coming Wellington meeting. Bay Acre, improving in pace, ran half a mile in sisec. Cape .Morn and W illwyn, slipped over three furlongs in 36sec. Epigram, is now back again in solid work. He gave Colossical seven or eight lengths’ start at the six furlongs and was up with his companion at the post, after running the last half mile in 50 2-ssec . Autopay was worked over a round with Roderick Dhu, sprinting home the last furlong. He will probably attempt to win the second Tiiomjison Handicap next month. SILVER SCORN Silver Scorn, who has not been profitable since being purchased for Australia, is to be seen in action again on Saturday, when she will contest the Rand-wick Stakes. The race should be full of interest, as she is to be opposed by the crack NewSouth Wales gallopers Peter Pan and Chatham, and by the Queensland horse Lough Neagh, who has recent winning- form to his credit. NEW S OF GREENHORN In a letter to a friend at Trentham G. Jones, who trains in Melbourne for Mr W - R. Kemball. says that Greenhorn has been going very well in his work and is one of the favourites for the Australian Cup. EXCHANGE OF INMATES Bright Rcdl has been turned out for a spell, and his place in F. D. Jones’s stable has been filled by a four year old filly by Jericho from the Solferino mare Couleur de Rose, bred and owned by Mr George Gould. RECOVERING Although there is no possibility of W . Duncan, the Victorian crack jockey, riding- at the autumn carnival, he ha s hopes of returning- to the saddle in the spring. His ambition is to ride the winner of the Centenary Melbourne Cup. “I’m feeling fine,’’ said Duncan, “but it will be a month or two at the earliest before I resume riding work again.’’ Duncan was seriously injured when Rose Valais fell with him at Willumstown lat June. AN IMPRESSIVE MILE At Riccarton the other morning Manctho was responsible for an attractive effort over a mile. He was assited by Jolly Beggar for the first two furlongs, and was then picked up by Bright Shade, while at five furlongs Final Shot joined in. In a hard tussle Manchio finished a length in front of Bright Shade, who similarly beat Final Shot. The first half took 51 4-SSCC, and the full distance 1.42 4-5. Manetho will be ridden by A. Russell in the Banks Peninsula Cup. and although he has yet to prove, his ability to master a distance, ho finished on so well at the end of seven furlongs at Trentham last month that his prospects look bright. TO HAVE A LET UP Aussie Ra, who developed slight shin soreness at the Taranaki meeting, is having a few days’ spell and he may ultimately be turned out for the rest of the season. He gives every indication of waiting time to show his true form (say s “Moutroa” in. the Taranaki Herald). PREP AK ATI ON INTE RFERE D WITH Superior has been turned out for a long spell 011 her ow ner’s farm at Stratford and will not race again this season. A series of colds and other mishaps has interfered with the preparation of this filly since early in the spring and it was considered that a definite spell was necessary to enable her to recover properly. EARLY FORM ENCOURAGING The Surveyor gelding Versant, yvho has not raced since the spring, has been taken up again by- G. Holland at Ellerslie and looks in fine order In undergo a further preparation. So far his tasks have been restricted to trotting and cantering in the centre of the course, and he will need a bit of time before he is ready to race. Versant’s early- form was encouraging, and if he trains on more is likely to be heard of him before the season closes.

WELL GROWN YOUNGSTER

H. Nurse is at present working at Riccarton a three year old gelding by Hunting Song from, a Martian —Snmisen mare that looks like turning out a good class galloper. He is built on solid proportions and has been gwen every' chance to finish growing. Nurse has also put into commission again the three year old gelding by Shambles from the English mare Sweet Charity- He was in work for a short period last season, but was put

aside until now owing to not being fully furnished. Both should! do good service for the stable later. Mr A. A. H. Scrifshaw of Christchurch. who recently took over the lease of Ranelagh from A. F-. Wormald, has had colours registered as follows: Kmerald green and brown stripes, emerald green sleeves and cap. The new livery will probably make its first appearance at the Banks Peninsula meeting this week. AN OAKS CANDIDATE Final Shot has thrown off the effects of her recent ailment, and has resumed l active work. It is intended to race her in the Peninsula Cup this week, and if she shapes satisfcatorily over the mile and a quarter journey attached to that event, she will be sent to F.llerslie with a view to contesting the Great Northern Oaks at Ellerslie on Easter Monday. NOVICE HURDLER Bright Flower, who figures in the Puni Hurdle Race at the Fransliu meeting, is training on satisfactorily at Ellerslie and J. Buchanan has the bay gelding well forward in condition. Bright I'lower has been allotted several schooling tasks over hurdles during the last few weeks and on each occasion his displays have been most satisfactory. STAYED ON WELL Scarlet Rambler, who- scored her first win in the Trial Stakes at Ricearton recently, is a Day Comet three year old. Her dam, Brambletye has left a number of useful winners, including Thorndale, Prickles, Shrap Thorn and Brambletorn, the last named the winner of the Metropolitan Handicap at Riccarton in November.
