When the Limited express reached Te Awainutu at 10 o’clock last night the police arrested Andrew McPherson, a middle-aged man, who liad travelled from Auckland, lying on the top of a carriage. 111 the local Court lie was charged with being idle an ! disorderly. McPherson said he wanted to return to Taumarniiui. where lie hoped to secure work. and. having no money for the fare, he climbed to the top °f a carriage and travelled 100 miles in the cold night air. He ottered to walk the other 75 miles to Taumariinui if lie was not sent to gaol. lit* was convicted anl ordered to come up for sentence if called
