POWER BOARD

ENGINEER’S REVIEW HIS MONTHLY REPORT The following report was present, ed by the engineer, Mr W. A. Waters, at to-day’ s meeting of the Manawatu-Ciroua Power Board: IN BEACONSFIELD VALLEY Work in. connection with the change oyer at Corpe’s sawmill was completed and supply given. The sub. pieviously erected on the road has been dismantled. Owing to the increase in load it has become necessary to rearrange our existing lines in Beaeonsfield valley. The work consists of extending our 1 1,000 voltlines to 60 chains and shifting two transformers. Nineteen steel rail? were used for the job, but tlie alteration enabled us to recover 20 silver pine poles, and a considerable quantity of 7-16 copper. 7'his work is not yet completed.

General maintenance work was also carried out in the Halcombe, Mount Biggs and Aorangi areas, in addition to the usual work in the Feilding borough. FREEZING WORKS The work of connecting in Messrs Borthwick’s freezing works to new switchboard will be completed during this month and the change over from gas and steam to electric drive will result in increased load. The metering equipment is in stock and the' works have laid their cables up to the transformer* GROWTH OF LOAD One feature of the present growth of load is the large number of radio sets being installed every month for some time past, which all have to be inspected. NEW CONSUMERS The following new consumers were given a supply during the month: Lighting and heating 3, motors for milking 11, one range, five water heaters, two industrial motors (one 34 h.p.j, 20 other motors and 37 additions and alteration* to existing installations. Included in the additions to existing installatons were four incubators of 250 watts each, and two electric brooders. EXTENSIONS Requests have been received from D. H. Harris, W'hale Line, and W

Roach, Hiwinui, for extension to existing- lines to supply milking- motors. The rcqured guarantees asked for ate .£l4 and £q 16s respectively. These are the only consumers in sight on the extensions.
