BUTTER RESTRICTION

(To the Editor, Star) Sir,—ln the Star on Saturday appeared a news item per Press Association from Christchurch conveying the text of resolution passed by a meeting of Canterbury butter factories, favouring tlie restriction of butter export. Such a resolution coming from dairy factories in Canterbury is likolv to mislead those who are not acquainted with that province’s position as regards the export of butter. It will no doubt interest many of your readers to know that for practically six months of the year they do not manufacture enough butter to keep their own local market going and tliafc large quantities of butter have to be procured from tlie North Island and other more favoured districts in the South. At the present time butter is being sent to Christchurch from the North Island. It can he seen therefore that restriction of export would favour Canterbury factories (who are in a measure traders in dairy produce! at the expense of the butter producing districts It is gratifying to the producer to know that tlie Hairy Board is not being stampeded by resolutions such as these and similar propaganda from interested sections ot Home. Thankimr you for your valuable space. —I am, etc.. “BUTTERFAT” Feilding. 10/4/33.
