VOTING ON ESTIMATES
PUBLIC WORKS FOR NEXT YEAR A HEAVY REDUCTION MORE THAN 50 PER CENT. SETTLING IDLE WORKERS Heavy decreases resulting in a reduction of more than 50 per cent, on least year’s total are revealed in the estimates of the I’ll bib 1 Works Department for the year ending March •'ll next. These were presented to the House last evening In conjunction with the Financial Statement. Tile amount to Vie voted is £2,338,070, ns against £5,837,000 last year. This Be.bleed total, however, exceeds hy £1,104,700 the March estimate of the Minister of Public Works, the Hi. Hon. ,T. G. Coates. The amount actually sjieiit last year totalled £4,205.274.
