A YOUNG MAN FINED Per Press Association, Auckland, October 2. A young man wa* before the Police Court on, a charge which, Fie Magistrate dqscribed as most serious. Eric Whitson, 20, wag charged .with unlawfully assuming the designation of a member of the New Zealand police force (detective) oni Sept ember 13. Accused pleaded guilty. Sergeant -Kelly said Whitson on ■September 13 vein -to s ee a, business man. He .said tills man wa s ctrook and that there were defalcations in. bis books. “Whitson' told tlie bufciimess man that lie worked in the detective office on probation and he also told some girls that he was a. detective,” said Detective-Sergeant Kelly. “He produced a. pair of handcuffs. Apparently Whitson wants to bp ov. probation ag given by this Oouit, which would he nothing new to him as he hn,> three previous convictions. ” Accused was fined £lO, in default one month in gaol.
