TRAIN PASSENGERS ALARMED A FORTUNATE SLOW-DOWN (Aust and NZ. C&N®) Sydney, July 29. A train derailment occurred at Fassifem. in the vicinity of Newcastle, owing to a broken rail. Five passenger coaches in the North (’oast, mail train hound for Sydney left tlie rails, ploughing up the permanent way, throwing passengers off thenseats and causing alarm. The mishap probably would have been iftt-auded with serious consequences bad not the driver slowed down just before at a point where repairs to it culvert wove- tinder way. No one was injured.
