MARVELLOUS MOTHERLAND
Mr Baldwin was justified on tlie figures given to h ill in chiding tho junior partners of John Bull and Sons by showing how solidly Britain patronised her Dominions Overseas in trade and commerce. In a recently issued ei-euiar anticipating the Ot taira Conference the British Empire Producers’ Association—a body headquartered in London which watches over colonial interests—had some-
thing to say on the issue- of Empire v. foreign countries. Quoting 1929 «s a period before the slump, it was shown tliat Britain bought from t-lie Empire goods to tlio value of £298,000,000, while she sold- to the Empire £324,000,000; she bought from foreign countries goods to- tire value of £312,000,000, while they bought from Britain only £405,000,000. Thus for every £1 worth of goods Britain bought from the Empire she sold in return under 10s worth. A strong argument for a self-contained Empire.
