Mr Taylor said last night a special meeting of the Borough Council would be called for next week for the purpose of considering the estimates. He had hoped to have final details rocrardiner: revaluations before adoptinsr the estimates, so that the Council imkiht have an accurate estimate of the amount of rates collectable. but so far there was no sijrw of a sitting of the Assessment Court and the Council would need to get o-a with its programme. Tho Mayor hoped every Councillor would come to tho meeting; with suggestions as te how the ratepayers might he helped. He did net suggest there should he any further reductions i.n salaries and wages, hut the whole, question would he reviewed. He hoped tho Council would not take it as a. bombshell, but tbo whole range of subsidies would have to 1)0 reviewed too. The Council would .get some, relief owing to the reduction 1,1 interest and the favourable, exchange f n Sydney, but there vra& a v °ry substantial total of loans °n which thero would be no reduction.
