OR THREE MONTHS IN GAOL FOR SEDITIOUS PUBLICATION AT A TIME OF UNREST (Pei Press Association )• Wellington, Feb. 15. Found guilty of publishing a document expressing seditious intention, John Robinson, publisher of the Communits paper, the Red Worker, was to-day fined ,£SO, in default three months' in gaol. The Magistrate, Mr McNeil, expressed the opinion that there were several statements in the paper which came under the definition of seditious intention and one article went much further than h advocate the training of young people to understand the Marxian philosophy, as urged by the defending counsel. “Further,” added his Worship, “the paper is published at a time when New Zealand in common with many other countries, is faced with considerable difficulty and whole tone of the paper is designed to promote unrest amongst the people of this country.” Mr McNeil was of the opinion that the document deliberately expressed seditious intention. Mr Robinson was also ordered to pay three guineas as counsel’s fee. He was given a month to find the money.
