ABOUT ARAPUNI
AHEAD OF SCHEDULE COMPLETE BY .TUNE Exceptionally rapid progress is reported to have been made on the reconstruction of the Arapuni hydroelectric works. Every item of the work is up to or ahead of the programme date. The (onoeting of the headrace and the portion below the falls is well ahead, and the Public Works Department officer under whose direction the job is being done can see nothing that i£ likely to provide difficulties. All the anticipated difficulties have been disposed of successfully, and it is expected that, the constructional alterations will he completed comfortably before the schedule date—June of next: year. The work to date is reported to have been done well within the estimate of £500.000. ••Of course we cannot tell until lhe new work has been thoroughly tested.” an officer of the Department said. "The dam will he filled and the test made, and if alterations are found to be desirable some time will necessarily he lost before Arapuni can operate regularly again. But at the rate of progress we are now making we see no reason why the work should not he completed before June, and well within the estimated price.”
