The death occurred in Wellington on Friday of Mr Joseph Dwyer, proprietor of the Midland Hotel. Archbishop Kelly, of Sydney, is likely 10 become a Cardinal at 'he end of the month. 'The death is reported by cable from London of Katherine Tynan, the noted Irish novelist and poet. \ Nelson telegram report- the death of Mr John Webley, 85, a respected resident of that city. Archbishop Redwcod will celebrate his 02nd birthday to-morrow. He *s in very good health. The death has occurred of Mrs. Cyril Shepherd at Wanganui. She was the eldest daughter of the late Rev. Robert and Mrs Welsh. Mr G. F.. Pollock, Clerk of the Court in Feilding, is at present on holiday, and his place is being taken by Constable Ruddell, bailiff. Deep regret has been occasioned by the sudden death at Wanganui of Mr Wm. Rankin, manager of Johnston and Co.’s branch. He l joined that firm 50 years ago and rose from office boy to manager. On Thursday the retiring Administrator of Samoa, Colonel Allen, was farcwclled at a native function at Muiinuu when addresses were given by the chiefs and presentations were made. Mr Wm. Page, ,architect of Wellington and past president of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, has been elected a Follow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is a brother of Mr T. Page, of Feilding. One of New* Zealand’s oldest bankers, Mr Edward Turner, died in Palmerston on Thursday evening, aged SO. Mr Turner was a resident of Napier at the time of the earthquake, and had been in indidifferent health for some time. His home was wrecked, and the 1 family removed 10 Palmerston a few days later. The shock, with a chill, hastened the end.
