HON. AY. D. STEAVART SPEAKS IN PARNELL CAMPAIGN fUe* Pi'ess Association* Auckland, May 2. A warm welcome was given to the Hon. \Y. Downici Stewart when he made his first speech to-night in support of the Reform candid are for Parnell. Air Stewart, who was received with prolonged applause, said his object was merely to put before them as simply as passible tlie political situation as it appeared to him. After criticising tlie Government’s finances he added : “While some of you may think it unfortunate that the Government is not able to borrow all it wants to, I personally think- it is a piece of good fortune.’’ He thought it a wise policy, even in times when the money markets were free and open not to take all that those markets could offer, hut the least flic countrv could do- with.
