SUICIDE AT WAIATA
SUFFERED FROM NERVOUS DEPRESSION Shortly after 6 o’clock yesterday morning, at his home at Waiata. Thomas Roulston. a well-known farmer. shot himself whilst in tr srnte of depression due to ill-health. The District Coroner. Mr. E. Gooclheltere, .IP., held an inquest, at which eykltffiee was tendered by Dr. K. G. Salmond. of Feilding. that ho had been attending deceased for th P past fortnight for nervous depression. He last saw him on April 28. when lie was in a very depressed state. Witness had advised him to undergo treatment at lianmer hospital and arragements were being made l'or his admission there. He had examined deceased on tieing advised of the shooting and found a gunshot wound in the chest. Death had been instantaneous and everything pointed to the wound being seli-inflicted. Mrs. Roulston gave evidence that her husband rose at 6.30 a.m. and after remarking that the weather was a big foggy went outside. A few minutes later she heard the report and on going outsid,, found her husband on the ground with the gun alongside him. A verdict, was returned that deceased died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while suffering from nervous depression.
