EASTER JUBILEE MEETING SATURDAY AND MONDAY The Feilding Jockey Club’s Easter Jubilee Meeting is set down for Saturday and Monday. The acceptances are very good considering the number of meetings held at this time of the year. The Manchester Gold Cup Handicap, i \ miles, the principal event to be decided on the first day of the meeting, has drawn a fine field, among them being such smart performers as Cashier, Maori Boy, Star Area, Pahu and High Court. On the second day the Oroua Hack Gold Cup Handicap will be decided over a mile and a distance, for which the acceptance should be good. Given fine weather the sporting public should witness excellent racing and exciting finishes. The lawns and course are in first class order. The first race is timed to start at 11-30 a.m. each day. Below- appear the acceptances for the first day’s racing, and comments thereon : KAWA KAWA HACK HURDLES,

ltoiiex 10 O Wyford 9 0 In this event there will be plei\ly of support for the top weight (\\ henuanui), Vivo, Zippor and Rouex. Of the others,, Whisogne is not overburdened with 9.13. When the last half-mile is entered upon, -1 good race between V MENU ANT I, VIVO and WHISOGNE should be .witnessed. ONGO HACK, of TjG sovs:, 0 furlongs

There is a smart lot of hacks engaged in the second race carded, the Ongo Handicap. If started, Equitant will be favourite, while Hunting Boy will carry good money, Paiko will not want for friends. Perennis will get good support from Tc Awamutu, Air Laddie and Glenrossie is sure .0 be well backed on the day, and Leisure will not be the outsider when the machine closes. EQUITANT, PERENNIS and GLENROSSIE may fight out the finish.

MANCHESTER, GOLD CUP, of GOO sovs., 1\ miles.

Now comes the race of the day, the Manchester Gold Cup. Cashier is at the head of the Handicap, with 8 3 opposite his name. This horse’s best performance of late was in the Manawatu Cup, at the summer meeting at Aw a pun i, where, carrying 8.5, he was beaten a head by Seatown (8.4) in a better field than he will meet on Saturday. On that occasion the going was on the heavy side, and the mile and a half was compassed in 2.40 1-5. With a shorter distance, and the going in good order, Cashier will be very hard to dispose of. The next on the list is the northern-owned and trained Maori Boy. This horse has been in the limelight quite recently, and at the Whangarei meeting he carried 8.1 1 in the Mclnnes Memorial, 1 i miles, and won decisively in 2.9. On the second day in the Autumn Handicap, and over a similar distance, carrying 9.7, he won easily in similar time. Star Area seems to have lost all form for the present and can be passed over. Yoma is well on in years. His best effort of recent time was in the Opunake Cup, il /miles, in filling third place with 8.10 to Llanore 7.7 and Hi'po 7.11. Palm’s form has been quite good lately, and at the Manawatu autumn meeting he finished up bv accounting for a good r.eld m.. the Tamatete Handicap with

7. ; on his back, tin: mile and a quarter being- cut out inn. 6 12-5, High Falutin’ would be suited by a shorter journey and Mountain Heath will have to improve a lot on his late running. High Court (7.6), accounted for the Hawke’s Bay Cup field, ij miles, in J.JS. if started he must be considered. Royal Opera lias performed well in hack company ihis season, but he is up against better class in this event. Marjoram may find the going against him. Shrewd has been backed on several occasions, but has let his party down repeatedly. Llanore can gallop when in the mood. She accounted for a double at the Opunake meeting on March 17 —cult and sprint event —carrying 7:4 and 7 S respectively. Briar Root may be expected to show up on her home track, while Monsognc is well spoken of To sum up—CASHIER, PAHU, MAORI BOY, with MONSOGNE as next best. MAIDEN STAKES, of IGO sovs., six furlongs (all 8.7) Tarbnby, Abbey Lund, Kahamui. Troubadour, Amlin Ra, Miss Cobham, Spear wood, Spear form, Valina, Bon Eve, Etelii Hangi. l'akitere, Horten.se, Pimple. Moatoa. Son Scout, Four Acres, Okapuu, Creunutowii. SPEARFORM or MISS OOBHAM may be the best backed when the machine closes down. TAONUI HACK, of 175 sovs., seven furlongs Potoaform 9 0 Easterly 7 11 Brilliant Patoleer 7 11

On form the chances of POT OAFORM, LATAKIA and TENT CALL are preferred. MANGAONE HANDICAP, of 300 sovs six furlongs

The big sprint. event of the day, the Mangaone Handicaj). should prove a great race, and with such a class of horse engaged the jiace will be on all the way. Consent is sure to run well with all his 9.0. At the last Manawatu meeting he won the J. M. Johnston Memorial Handicap, siitv i’urlongs, with 8.5 on bis back ir. 1.14, the field he met being a strong one. | The racing that Benzora has had of late should sharpen him ujj. He has 1 been given a great chance with B.u.[ and if the sting is out of the ground j on the day he will -run a great race. I The Raider (8.11) always races well on the local course, and must run well. Arikinui can gallop to some tune when in the mood. He mar- be preferred to his stablemate (Rational II.) on the day. Freehold comes from the stable that shelters Consent, but his form has been nothing to enthuse over of late. Just So has more than an outside chance, while Te Atiawa and Gold Dawn are hardly tuned ujr vet. The placings may be BENZORA, THE RAIDER, CONSENT, with JUST SO as the most likely to upset calculations.

ONEPUH I HACK, of 225 sdvs. One mile and a distance

I A good field is likely to go to the post in this event, and when the last furlong is entered upon the three to fight out . the finish may be AUCTIONEER, LLYN DIIU and TUNBRIDGE. I HALCOMBE HANDICAP, of 250 sovs., seven furlongs

i Melissa S 3 The day’s racing will be closed down on the Haleombe Welter. The horses with best prospects are RUANUI, MANDY and KEDDAR. If not started earlier in the day EQUITANT, on Rangitikei running, will not want for support. AUCKLAND SCRATCHING (Per Pres« Association* Auckland. Ajn-il 16. Envoy was scratched for the President’s Handicap at 2.55 p.m.

Murtagli will leave Trentham with Arikinui and Rational 11. to fulfil engagements at Feilding. Both are very well at jrresent. A. Hobson, who was seriously injured by a fall of! Mister Gamp while schooling at Awapuni, is gradually ' recovering. He is troubled by loss of memory. It is reported that the Auckland Racing Club has decided upon a change of starters, and that a w'efi known Elierslie trainer is likely to be appointed. It is reported from Dunedin that G. Fielding is booked for a trip to Riverton with Royal Saxon. This means that the Saxby gelding will be at Riccarton next week. Royal Heritage, by Royal Mac, was not raced until last season, when he failed to show much form. He has since made a marked improvement with age, and is now likely to earn more distinction than that attached to his victory at Hororata on Saturday.

Roi de Val, who is engaged on the flat at Tauherenikau, is being schooled over hurdles at Trentham by H. Kingan, but so far his displays have been indifferent.

By winning the Storey Memorial Cup Corinax added another good race to his record, which now stands at 11 wins, 10 times second and five times third in 49 starts.

J. H. Jcfford will have a strong team to represent the stable at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting, viz., Star Stranger, Hunting Day, Don Quixote, Cylinder and Love Song.

The win of Great Charter in the J. D. Ormond Gold Cup last Saturday was an attractive performance, and he looks like playing a prominent part in the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton.

S. J. Reid left Trentham for Riccarton yesterday with Historic, Panther and Lineage. Historic has gone on the right way since winning at Masterton and promises to start a very decided favourite for the Great Autumn Handicap.

At the Parkes (N.S.W.) meeting last week the Tea Trays engaged were, for once in a way, out of luck, l ea Miss and Gold Tray each started favourite for their engagements and each was nayowly beaten into second place.

The Te Aroha trainer, G. A. Reid, has secured a lease of the Shambles • —Pilbrow Lass filly from Mr J. G. Grigg, of Longbeach. She is reported to have grown into a fine stamp of thoroughbred, and she is to be given every chance before being seriously tested.

The Otago horseman, I'. Voight, whose increasing weight has caused him to retire from the saddle, rode some good winners in his time. He won the New Zealand Derby on Nightmarch, the Oaks on Pink rerrace, the Great Easter on Cimabue, the Dunedin Cup on Footfall, the Invercargill Cup and the Oamaru Cup on Set Sail, and :he Trentham Gold Cup on Rapier.

With eight months of tlie season gone, W. Booth (23 wins) holds a clear lead in the winning trainers’ list on Sydney courses, which take in Randwick.
