MARKED EXPORT SHRINKAGE AN EXCESS OF IMPORTS (Per Press Association). Wellington, April 16. Conversion of an excess of exports of £12,048,478 into an excess of imports of £122,097 is the fnature of tiie Dominion’s overseas trade returns for the financial year ended on March 31 iasL, whidhj were madA available by the Alinister of Customs, the Hon. J. B. Dona'd. The Alinister stated that the total values of the exports from and imports into New Zealand for the period were : £ Exports 49,045,817 Imports 49,167,914 Excess of imports 122,097 Exports had decreased by £8,108,526 as co in pa rvj with the previous financial year, and imports had increased by £4,062,049. The principal cause of the decline in the exports had been fh4 lower prices obtained for wool this season and the decreased quantity exi orted.
