MAKING LAZY MOTHERS
COMMENT ON OBSTETRICAL At the Council meeting 21 letter was received from tlie local committee of the obstetrical Appeal Fund soliciting a donation from Fox ton. The Mayor (Mr M E. Perreau) said the appeal was deserving of the Council's support. He recommended that a grant of £5 be made. Cr. F. Robinson: If the Council can’t spend £l2 to put down a footpath in Purcell Street to keep children’s feet dry that can’t be granted! We should spend money at liom e before sending elsewhere. The Mayor: The appeal refers to our own womenfolk. Cr. ltobinson : And to our own pockets! (\ Koore: If w ( > can’t satisfy an appeal sic home I am not keen on satisfying other appeals. Cr. Kobinson : It’s only helping to make a lot of lazy mot.e;.\s. Cr. Barron: No dec mt man can turn down such an appeal as this. Think of our own mothers. The Mayor: We donate £2 2/!to the local Plunket Society every year and no objection is ever raised. Cr. S. 10. Cowley suggested that a similar amoun be donated to the ana! Cr. Barron: I think we might stretch a point for once and grant £5. It will never be risked for again. On fh ( » motion of Crs. Cowley and Barron it was decided however, that the donation be £2 2/-
