COMMENDATION’S GAIT GEORGE PRICE SATISFIED (Aust. and N.Z. Cable) Sydney, March 21. Trainer George Price is not concerned over Commendation. He said the horse had a peculiar gait suggestive of lameness. The horse trotted on the tracks this morning. DONCASTER HANDICAP MOLLISON WITHDRAWN

Pahu was very unlucy both days al the Wellington meeting. Pie is worth keeping in mind. Pedestal looks all the better for his racing at Trenlharn (says a Wanganui writer). Zarene is reported to be looking and working well on the tracks at Wanganui. Star Area again let punters down " 1 at Opunake. The Acre gelding a'p--1 pears to have lost all form. 1 Sydney papers to hand credit Night March as trainng on attractively at Randwiclc. 11. Cutts is remaining at Trentham for a few days with Sir George Clifford’s horses, prior to ;fuing on to Awapuni. Just an Idea (Chief Ruler—Gaiety) scored two wins at the Opunake 1 meetiiig last Monday. This gelding claims engagements at the Manavatu meeting next week. Ari'sus has had a short spell and has freshened up a lot. The son of Thespian and Pennon gives promise of furnishing into a useful three year old. Havaspot finished third in each of his outings at Treptham. He does not leave the mark too well, and this will always tell against him in sprint races. I 1 Hunting Call, who ran second n the Tinaori Handicap at Trentham on Saturday' last, is a half-brother to Royal Blood by Hunting Song. He is trained by J. Lowe at Trentham. Jaloux stayed on well to get third in the Wellington Autumn Handicap, one mile and three furlongs. He should get on the winning list at the C.J.C. meeting. In the Shade was taken to Wellington, but was only' saddled up for the Autumn Handicap, on the second day. He got inot all the trouble there was going and then finished fifth. The New Zealand-owned Tidal is standing up to his trainng at Rand-

wick satisfactorily, and lie is i'ncludde among the fancied division for the Sydney Cup, in which he figures with the handy impost of 7.12. Paratoo has an enlarged knee, which W. Dwyer hopes will yield to treatment. The son of Grandcourt gave promise of proving a good sort, and it is to be hoped he will throw off his trouble. First Money has a lot of speed and ran well for over five furlongs in the Railway Handicap on the first day of the Wellington meeting. With ordinary luck he should pick up a stake soon. Goldlike ran two good races till the straight was reached in the Highweight Handicaps at Trentham, and a win for the son of Gold Soult should not be far away. He is one of A. M. Wright’s Feilding team. The three year old Malayan, an Australian-bred colt by Claro, made the pace for a good portion of the way in the Hutt Handicap at Trentham on Monday, and in less pretentious company he should land a stake. Rapier, who again appeared on the Wellington race books as a gelding, a mistake probably copied from last year’s Turf Register, is evidently on the down grade. He never threatened danger at any stage of the race for the Trentham Gold Cup.

Star Stranger is the only horse to have won the Trentham Gold Cup twice. He led the field home two years ago, -when he carried 9.4, and ran the two miles in 3.223, establishing an Australasian record for the distance, which still stands. .

■ Mask continues to train on in a satisfactory manner, and appears to be quite sound. He will be given 1 plenty of time to get back his form, | and probably it will be the early spring bfeore lie faces the starter - again. , That well xrerformed galloper. Desert Glow, added another good race . to his list of victories on Saturday last when he defeated the opposition . in the Ohinemuri Cup, but there was very little in it at the end, and only , heads separated the first four horses. J There is nothing wrong with Meadow Lark, and it was only at the last . moment his trip to Trentham was cancejled. He has been engaged in . the Great Easter Handicap at the C.J.G. meeting, and it will be interesting to see how Mr Henrys treats ■ him over seven furlongs. It is stated that the English-bred mare, Celerity 11., will not stand an- . other winding-up preparation. The tendon which caused her to be thrown out of work nearly three months ago • does not show much improvement for the long spell she enjoyed. I 1 On Top, who won a double at the Rotorua meeting- and subsequently ran third in the Waiuku Handicap at the Franklin meeting, is due to make his next appearance at the Bay of Plenty meeting. The three year old son of Surveyor is a smart galloper, j But for being well back in the early part Lucy Rose would probably have won the St. Patrick’s Handicap at the Ohinemuri meeting. A smart jump out won the race for Awarere, but quick beginning is half the battle, and Awarere is good at leaving the tapes Ceremony is going along nicely in his work on the Wanganui tracks. I He hit out freely in doing half a mile on the outside of the course the other morning. The son of Absurd—Pennon should be capable of running a fast six furlongs at Awapuni next I week. Glare is to be nominated for the next Melbourne Cup, and even that i race may not be beyond the Austra-lian-bred gelding. His win at Trentham in record time will cause Australian handicappers to form a high Opinion of him, but he is a fine weight-carrier and an outstanding sayer. Great Charter put in a good finishing effort at the end of the Hutt Handicap on Monday at Trentham and was very unlucky to lose. It he had been made more use of in the middle stages, so that he could have retained the good position he got early, he would have been very troublesome. Instead he was allowed to drift right back and had to put in a great run. Great Charter -should soon be on the winning list again. i

The connections of Adelphi would feel pleased with the showing of the youngster in the Plunket Nursery Handicap at Trenham on Saturday-. He put in a great run on the rails from the top of the straight, and at one stage gave the impression that he would be in the money, but a bad

nassage and lack of racing bad its effect. Adelphi is showing- the benefit of the patient jjolicy adopted with him, and it will occasion no surprise if he does not develop into a high class three year old.
