PROBATIONER TEACHERS
THE NEAV REGULATIONS
UNDUE HARSHNESS ALLEGED
A protest against the alleged harshness of tfie new regulations affecting probationer teachers was made at a meeting of the Hamilton Headmasters’ Association.
It was explained to the meeting that under clause 11 of the regulations referring to probationers, headmasters were responsible for the following special (subjects )of instruction: Physical training, school method, vocal music, nature study, drawing and handwork. In addition the section of the regulations referring to Training College entrance examinations required that candidates should past at Inst seven of a, list 1 f nine other subjects. It was tbus necessary for candidates t° take at least 12 subjects between February and November. It was considered in view of the fact that probationers spent four hours a day in teaching practice, the new regulations caused them undue hardship, and imposed work that was quite beyond the strength of young students.
