INCREASED PRODUCTION BTT LOWER PRICES The following extracts from the Cheltenham Co-operative Dairy Co.’s, monthly circular to suppliers respecting production and tlie markets is of general interest. The report on tlie factory’s operations is as follows: Butter made in February, 1930 a 262 tons; in 1020, 210 t°ns; increase, 52 tons. The manufacture for the period of eight months ended February 28, exceeds the manufacture for the corresponding period of last season hv 125 t fin - s - Tlie output during March is showing (i decided drop from day to day, due no doubt to the dry weather and cold night. Tlie increase in production has been general throughout New Zealand, there being an increase of 8.68 per cent, in {Ke Dominion’s bufterfat production for the period of 8 months to the end of February, when compared with the corresopnding period of the 1928-29 season.

The cable reports on the London butter market are heuing anxiously watched by the dairy farmers. Yesterday’s cable is 140 s per cwt., and this price would give an approximate nett returned, of Is ltd per ex-factory door. There are many factors which have militated against better prices for onr produce this season. Production has increased considerably in New Zealand, and Australia lias had a wonderful season and the Continent a mild winter, consequently the ted Kingdom is over supplied. Consumption is not keeping pace v ith these increased importations, due t** a large extent t.o 1 the unemployment in England restricting the purchasing power.
