DEPUTATION TO MINISTER

A deputation, from the Board of Alauagers of tjie Agricultural High School, with support, is to wait on the Hon. J. G. Cobhe at (he earliest moment 10 place before him the urgent need for more accommodation at the school.

Air Tolley forwarded a report, of a deputation which had waited on the Minister of Education, as follows :

“Mr Atkinson, the headmaster and myself waited 011 the Hon. Air Attnore on March 5 in Wellington, and I wish fist to record our very great appreciation of the kindness of tho Hon. Mr Stallworthy, who introduced the deputation. The matters brought to the deputation. The matters brought to the attention of the Minister were : (1) The need for an immediate grant for extension to the school; (2) the need for an immediate grant for adjustments in trie kitchen of flic school house ; (3) the necessity tor consideration of a building scheme t.o meet the growing need of the boarding department ; (4) the question of a small additional grant for development work on the school farm. The deputation was received sympathetically and the immediate outcome is that the Assistant-Direc-tor of Education and the architect were instrrueted fo come up to investigate the position, and report to the Minister. In regard to the last point, the Minister said tljat new regulations would be, framed to meet the ease of agricultural high schools Jilcely to be established on the Fei’dip,g model and the matter woul4 have eonsiderartiofn then. 1 now recommend that a strong deputation wait upon the Hon, Mr Cobbe, at thin first opportunity to urge upon him tho various measures necessary ,n the interests of the school and of tho district.”

Air Atkinson, who had been a member of the deputation, suggested that a deputation wait, on the Hon. J. G. 'Cobbe a.s early as possible to place, the need of the school for acoopunodation before him. Air Atkinson proposed this deputation comprise the whole, of the members ,of the Board, the Afavor of Feilding, fhe chairman of each of the local bodies—Afanawatu. Oroua. and Kiwitea County Councils, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce.

Air Buist seconded the motion which was carried unanimously.

In his monthly report the Principal of the school referred to tile need for more accommodation in detail and most urgent, terms and added that there is every indication that hoarding aceopimodation, will require t 0 bo extended to meet next year’s requirements as enquiries are already being received. . .
